INTERVIEW WITH IVAN PAUNIC

Q: How did you feel when you won the silver medal in the Eurobasket 2009 with your national team? Did you victory specially?
A: that was the first time i played with the first team. I'd played in some other sections before coming here, but seen selected to play with the first team is incredible, There's an amazing job on the part of all the players behind that. It was my first time with the national selection and getting the silver medal was a thrilling thing to me.
Q: Do you apreciate any victory specially?
A: Yes, all tournaments are special as playing against players like Navarro , Gasol who train every day for such a long time since they were very young, is something special. There´re very young players in our team and they've become stronger after being part of the first team.
Q: What's your next ambition with the national team?
A: The team is working really hard, and I'm training hard to participate in the next Olympic Games as all other players. I've never played in the Olympics before and I'll do my best to be there.
Q: We've seen you played in several teams for a short time. How was your experience in Fuenlabrada team you first year?
A: My adaptation here was very good. There´re players who adapt better than others, but I like Spain very much. I feel comfortable here and I like the basketball player here, so I'd stay in Spain for a long time.
Q:Is it difficult to adapt yourself to a foreign team?
A: Yes, I began in the Belge league when I was 19-20 years old and It was the first time I felt my town, my family, my friends.. I've been in many professional leagues since then and the last time I played in Serbia was 10 years ago.
Q:Real Madrid and Atlético de Madrid have been punished for transferring under eighteen to other teams against the current law. What do you think about that?
A: Young players should make a great effort and work hard to get a place in the first team, but i think that they should train and be educated in their towns. Leaving your country when you're under eighteen is very difficult and I think that when you're eighteen you should be offered a professional contract.
Q:When and where will you finish your career?
A: I honestly don't know … I love Spain and I think the best European league s here. I´m very happy here and I'd like to live and stay here and play basketball a lot.
Q:What would you like to do after finishing your career?
A: I´ll study to be a basketball trainer, but I'm not sure yet. I'll be playing for many more year and then, I'll think about it.
Q: Have you ever been interested in playing in the NBA?
A: No, I haven´t I love playing basketball in Europe. The best basketball is played here. The NBA is like a big sow. Real basketball is here: Madrid, Barcelona, CSKA… the real one. The NBA is the top, the players are really well trained and strong, they're amazing, but que best basketball is in Europe.
Q:Which is your favourite NBA team?
A:I don¨t know. I like San Antonio as they have great players like Duncan, Parker… so yes, San Antonio.
